Building Info
Completed in 1980 by Hines, 1100 Louisiana is a 55-story, 1.3 million-square-foot office tower nestled in the heart of Houston's primary energy and financial district. The building is elegantly clad in polished Spanish Rose granite, complemented by rose-colored windows. Its distinctive design includes large, stepped bays on the south and east curtain walls near the top of the structure. InforCenter QR Code Digital Building Directory located in the lobby offers robust functionality that enhances the aesthetic of the building. In addition to its office space, 1100 Louisiana offers 45,500 square feet of retail space and a 2,234-car parking garage, conveniently accessible via the downtown tunnel system.
The tower is anchored by a serene, garden-like water plaza that occupies nearly a quarter of the block. Designed by Gensler in collaboration with James Burnett Landscape Architects, the plaza features a mesmerizing fountain by WET Design, renowned for their work at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The fountain creates a "Water Room," an intimate space defined by two water walls, where gentle cascades descend from a series of programmable bubbling jets. Visitors to the plaza are enveloped in tranquility, shielded from the surrounding hustle and bustle of city traffic.
A floating disk, strategically placed off-center, ejects pulsating streams of water, which, when caught by gravity, create a rhythmic symphony as they strike the disk’s surface. In the evening, the water walls are illuminated by soft white light, and vertical columns of animated jets glow, enhancing the peaceful atmosphere. The fountains are surrounded by seven large oak trees, each with a domed topiary draped in ivy at its base. A floating bench encircles each topiary, offering a spot for visitors to relax and enjoy the water show. Additional sleek, chrome tables and chairs are scattered throughout the plaza for seating. Enhancing the seasonal ambiance, LED lights at the base of the topiaries change colors in sync with the seasons and holidays.
