Wells Fargo Plaza is a prominent skyscraper located at 1000 Louisiana Street in Downtown Houston, Texas. Known initially as Allied Bank Plaza, it was renamed First Interstate Bank Plaza in 1988 following a change in ownership. In 1996, after First Interstate Bancorp was acquired by Wells Fargo, the building became known as Wells Fargo Plaza. In 1983, the building experienced significant damage when it lost numerous windows during Hurricane Alicia. Over the years, several prominent tenants have leased space in the building. In 1993, the Consulate-General of the United Kingdom in Houston leased 9,707 square feet, and in 1996, NGC Corp. (now Dynegy) moved 700 jobs from a suburban office along U.S. Route 290 to the building, leasing 260,000 square feet of space. However, as part of its downsizing efforts during bankruptcy in 2012, Dynegy vacated the building. In 2006, Targa Resources signed an 11-year lease to occupy 101,600 square feet, taking over floors 43 through 46. By 2017, however, Targa had moved to 811 Louisiana. In 2007, CB Richard Ellis became the exclusive leasing agent for the property, which was 91% leased at the time, primarily by large and mid-sized tenants.
